Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are an excellent solution for replacing one or more missing teeth, restoring both function and aesthetics to your smile. At Grey Dentistry – Implant Center, we provide high-quality dental bridge treatments designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, helping you regain confidence in your smile and improve your overall oral health.
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a prosthetic device used to fill the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It consists of one or more artificial teeth (called pontics) that are anchored in place by crowns fitted to the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. Bridges help restore your ability to chew and speak properly, maintain the shape of your face, and prevent the shifting of surrounding teeth.
Types of Dental Bridges:
Traditional Bridges: Traditional bridges are the most common type and consist of one or more artificial teeth secured by crowns placed on the adjacent natural teeth. These bridges are durable and provide a natural-looking result.
Cantilever Bridges: Cantilever bridges are used when there is only one adjacent tooth to anchor the bridge. This type is typically used in cases where only one side of the gap has natural teeth.
Maryland Bridges (Resin-Bonded Bridges): Maryland bridges are made of a metal or porcelain framework with wings that attach to the back of the adjacent teeth. This type is less invasive and ideal for replacing front teeth.
Implant-Supported Bridges: When multiple adjacent teeth are missing, implant-supported bridges provide a stable solution by anchoring the bridge to dental implants rather than natural teeth. This option offers superior durability and is especially beneficial for patients with significant tooth loss.
The Process:
Consultation and Assessment: During your initial consultation, Dr. Sangeetha Priyadarshini will evaluate your oral health, discuss your options, and determine the best type of bridge for your needs. Digital X-rays and impressions are taken to plan the procedure.
Preparation: For traditional and cantilever bridges, the adjacent teeth are prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crowns. Impressions of your teeth are taken to create a custom bridge that fits perfectly.
Fabrication: A dental laboratory uses the impressions to fabricate your custom bridge. This process usually takes a few weeks. In the meantime, a temporary bridge may be placed to protect the prepared teeth.
Placement: Once the permanent bridge is ready, it is fitted and adjusted for proper fit and comfort. The bridge is then cemented into place, completing the restoration.
Follow-Up: Regular follow-up visits ensure the bridge is functioning well and that your oral health remains in good condition. Dr. Sangeetha Priyadarshini will provide instructions on care and maintenance to keep your bridge in excellent shape.
